The BMW X6 is the BMW Group's flagship mid-to-large coupe SUV. First making its global debut in 2008, it pioneered the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) segment. Currently on sale in the Chinese domestic market, the BMW X6 is the 2026 model year facelift (LCI) of the third-generation vehicle, brought in via BMW (Import). On 26 January 2026, the 2026 BMW X6 was officially launched in China, offered in two variants – the xDrive30i and xDrive40i – with official retail pricing ranging from RM648,000 to RM808,000. The 2026 X6 features targeted refinements in exterior styling, interior tech, and chassis performance to take on key rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

Design Language
On the exterior, the 2026 BMW X6 retains the pioneering DNA of the brand's flagship coupe SUV. Up front, it features an even larger signature 'kidney' grille with a black honeycomb mesh pattern and illumination functionality for heightened road presence at night. Flanking the grille are sharper laser headlight units, with daytime running lights (DRLs) adopting BMW's latest 'Angel Eyes' signature variant, boasting an illumination range of up to 600 metres. The front bumper has been reprofiled with more muscular lines. The side profile remains the X6’s most distinctive attribute—a sweeping coupe roofline flows gracefully from the B-pillar into the rear, complemented by a prominent three-section shoulder line that gives it an athletic, muscular stance. At the rear, it sports L-shaped 3D sculpted LED taillights, integrated with a quad-tailpipe exhaust layout and a sporty rear diffuser. The vehicle's aerodynamic drag coefficient is rated as low as 0.32 Cd. In terms of dimensions, the X6 measures 4,953 mm long, 2,004 mm wide, and 1,700 mm tall, with a 2,975 mm wheelbase. Inside, the cabin adopts a driver-focused layout, headlined by the BMW Curved Display combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, running on the latest BMW Operating System 8.5 or 9.0. The cabin is generously upholstered in Sensafin premium synthetic leather or Vernasca leather, with higher-spec variants offering Nappa leather upholstery.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2026 BMW X6 is offered with two powertrain choices, both mated to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The xDrive30i is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 190 kW (258 PS) and 400 Nm of torque; the xDrive40i gets a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine (coded B58B30P) that puts out 280 kW (381 PS) and peak torque of 520–540 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds en route to a top speed of 250 km/h. A 48V mild-hybrid system is fitted as standard across the range, returning a WLTC combined fuel consumption figure of 8.6 L/100 km. Additionally, an M Performance M60i variant equipped with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine is available in selected overseas markets.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinned by BMW’s CLAR platform, the 2026 BMW X6 features double-wishbone independent front suspension (also noted in technical materials as a double-joint spring-strute front axle) and a multi-link independent rear axle setup. The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch is standard across the board. The 2026 model adds adaptive air suspension, delivering significantly firmer body control and support in Sport mode; high-spec models can also be optioned with Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering). Steering duties are handled by an electric power steering (EPS) system. Braking power comes from ventilated disc brakes all around, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). In terms of tyre fitment, it runs on staggered 275/40 R21 front and 315/35 R21 rear rubbers. Kerb weight is rated at approximately 2,245 kg. The chassis setup is tuned to be taut and planted, striking a fine balance between sharp road dynamics and ride comfort.
Cabin and Equipment
Inside, the 2026 BMW X6 comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a 14.9-inch curved touchscreen display, running on iDrive 8.5 or 9.0 with Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity. The front seats feature heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while top-spec variants are upgraded with M Sport front seats. The 2,975 mm wheelbase affords ample rear legroom; boot capacity stands at 580 litres, expandable to 1,530 litres with the rear seats folded down. Creature comforts include four-zone automatic climate control, a wireless smartphone charging pad, ambient lighting, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, and CraftedClarity crystal glass interior applications on the gear selector and controls. In-car entertainment comes courtesy of a standard Harman Kardon premium sound system, with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System available as an option.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The 2026 BMW X6 comes fully kitted with comprehensive active and passive safety systems. On the active safety front, it packs BMW's latest Driving Assistant suite, offering Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Key features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection, and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). Higher-grade variants add a 360-degree surround-view camera system and a Head-Up Display (HUD). Passive safety is well-catered for with 7 airbags fitted as standard across the range. Other driver aids include Driver Attention Alert, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Auto Brake Hold, and Hill Start Assist.
Market Performance and Reception
Since its launch in 2008, the BMW X6 has surpassed the one-million global sales mark, establishing itself as the true pioneer and benchmark of the coupe SUV segment. In China, however, sales have faced headwinds in recent years. While combined global quarterly deliveries of the BMW X5/X6 series hovered around 62,275 units, terminal retail registrations for the X6 in China stood at just 149 units and 81 units for January and February 2026, respectively. The 2025 X6 retailed between RM668,000 and RM828,000, before the 2026 model's launch saw official pricing slightly repositioned to RM648,000–RM808,000. Managing just around a hundred units per month, the X6 not only trails behind the locally produced X5 by a huge margin, but also highlights its transition from a mainstream status symbol into a niche offering. Analysts point out that rear headroom and utility compromises inherent to the sloping fastback roofline, compounded by its premium pricing, are the primary dampening factors. Nonetheless, as the genre-defining luxury coupe SUV, the BMW X6 continues to command strong appeal among affluent buyers seeking distinctive styling, bespoke presence, and sheer driving pleasure.
